Hi, I'm new here, wasn't sure what to do or where to start, but October 4th I had an operation for bowel cancer and am currently undergoing chemothera to have an operation on my liver as I have cancer there as well. Is it normal to feel great one day and then the next day be asking if its worth getting out of bed for?  Evington Boy

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community although I am so sorry to hear about your diagnosis, this is such a hard time for you but I do hope you will find lots of support and comfort here on the Online Community.

The New to Community is like our reception desk where we can signpost you to our various support groups and services so can I recommend you join our Bowel (colon and rectum) cancer and Liver, secondary cancer groups. These will be safe places to talk to others who may have a similar diagnosis or treatment experience.

If you'd like to connect in with a group, you need to join the group. First click on the Green link I have created above. Then once the page opens click on the black banner that says [click to join] at the bottom, or the [Joinbutton under "Group tools."

You can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘new post’ by clicking in the box near the top right with + New (Computers) or + (Mobile Devices). You will then see a dropdown menu so hit Start a Discussion in New here, say helloand you are ready to go.

You could copy and paste the text from this your first post. You can also search through existing ‘Discussions’ and click [reply] if you want to put up a comment.

The Macmillan Support Line is open 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00 or via web chat. This service provides cancer information, emotional support, benefits and financial guidance or just a listening ear.

To find information covering diagnosis, treatments and pages covering most types of cancers check our Online Information and Support Section

  • Hi Highlander, I'm useless at using this sort of thing, so I'm hoping I'm replying to you and not Macmillan, I just want to say thanks for your help and words of advice. I'm doing ok at the moment, please let me know if I have managed to get this right in replying to you, thanks

  • Hi  and yes your reply  has come to me on the initial thread you put up - well done and you will get a hand if this the more you use the site.

I see you have joined the Bowel (colon and rectum) cancer group and put up a post - again well done.

If you find it hard to look for your posts hit ‘your’ community name and this opens up ‘your’ area on the site. To look at posts you have put up and replies you have revived and made look for ‘Activity’ and you will find these listed in this area.

    All the very best.
