  • Hi  and welcome to the Community.

The New to Community area is like our reception desk so If you could tell me a little more about what has brought you to the Community I can direct you to the best area for support.

  • Hello, I chose to join as I’m a carer for my husband who’s cancer returned early this year and finding things quite hard on us all as a family

  • Thanks for getting back to me, so sorry to hear about your husband’s cancer returning, this is such a hard time for you all, I know this well as I have relapsed a number of times over my years on my journey.

When it comes to the specific practical challenges of supporting someone on their cancer journey you may benefit from joining our supportive Carers only group where you will connect with others supporting family and friends.

If you'd like to connect in with a group, you need to join the group. First click on the Green link I have created above. Then once the page opens click on the black banner that says [click to join] at the bottom, or the [Joinbutton under "Group tools."

You can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘new post’ by clicking in the box near the top right with + New (Computers) or + (Mobile Devices). You will then see a dropdown menu so hit Start a Discussion in New here, say helloand you are ready to go.You can also search through existing ‘Discussions’ and click [reply] if you want to put up a comment.

You can also look through this list where you will find all our many dedicated cancer support groups listed. Do have a look and join the most suitable group for his cancer  as this will be a safe place to talk to others who may have a similar diagnosis, treatment experience. or are supporting someone on their cancer journey.

The Macmillan Support Line is open 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00 or via web chat. This service provides cancer information, emotional support, benefits and financial guidance or just a listening ear.

Always around if you need further help in navigating the community.

    All the very best ((hugs))

  • My wife has been diagnosed with brest cancer 2 weeks ago. She has decided to take the pills prescribed for the next 3 months hoping they will reduce the tumour and that will mean less invasive surgery. She has not told me any other information and is keeping to her usual activities but getting tierd early evenings .I am trying to be supportive but not sure when if I should try to get her to talk more about how she's feeling .She dis show me a letter which mentioned grade 2 but I did not like to ask her what this means as she seems quite short with me when I ask anything at the moment.

    Any guidance would be appreciated.

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to you although I am sorry to hear about your wife.

Each cancer type will follow different journeys so talking with folks who are walking the journey both as patients or family supporting is the best way to get first hand information and support.

I see you have joined our Breast cancer group as this is a safe place to talk to others who may have a similar diagnosis, treatment experience or are supporting someone on their cancer journey.

So follow the link I have created and introduce yourself by putting up a ‘new post’ by clicking in the box near the top right with + New (Computers) or + (Mobile Devices). You will then see a dropdown menu so hit Start a Discussion in New here, say helloand you are ready to go.

You can also have a look at the Carers only group as well.

The Macmillan Support Line is open 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00 or via web chat. This service provides cancer information, emotional support, benefits and financial guidance or just a listening ear.
