Hi, Around 6 weeks ago my doc referred me to the hospital to check a small ulcer type lump on the underside of my tongue. The appointment soon turned into a small procedure to remove the lump for a biopsy. I've since been back for a 2nd procedure to remove more from the same area and was informed I had a carcinoma in situ but not actually cancer.

I have been assured that the 2nd procedure was precautionary to ensure all necessary areas were removed. I have been through an emotional rollercoaster since the 2nd appointment. The surgeon consulted with a specialist and determined no scans are required, I don't have cancer but I will need observed for 5 years.

I don't really know what I'm asking but the uncertainty is hard to take. I have an appointment in January at some point. Hopefully for confirmation I don't have cancer but I am terrified.

Thanks for reading Grin

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community although so sorry to hear about your on going tests, this is such a hard time for you but I do hope you will find lots of comfort and support here on the Online Community.

From my pint of view it is good that your are receiving positive news and let’s look for the to continue. I was diagnosed back in 1999 with an incurable but treatable type of blood cancer. I have relapsed a good number of times over the years and went through a lot of treatments but on the whole I am doing great and I definitely don’t spend my precious time looking for my next relapse. I concentrate on life and being in the lucky camp.

The New to Community area is like our reception where we can signpost our many dedicated support groups and services……in this list you will find all our many dedicated cancer support groups listed and the second list is for our various other Cancer experience groups.

But as you don’t have a cancer diagnosis you may find it helpful to call the Macmillan Support Line the line is open 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00 or via web chat. This service provides cancer information, emotional support or just a listening ear and you may also find our Ask an Expert section helpful.

Always around if you need further help in navigating the community.

    All the very best ((hugs))
