  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community

I'm sorry to read how you're feeling after being diagnosed with thyroid cancer but I'm glad you've found this community for support.

As the online community is divided up into different support groups I'm going to recommend that you join the thyroid cancer group which is a great places to ask questions, share experiences and get support.

To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help

  • Hi Laura

I don't know your history or your diagnosis but I can reassure you that many of us live fully 'normal' lives without our thyroid and that taking a tablet once a day is not unusual or wildly inconvenient. You'll get used to it.

Not knowing what the symptoms you are challenged by are, I can't tell you when or if they'll go away, but if you're still at the early stages of living life without a thyroid, you have a very good chance that life will go back to something very like normal once you get your medication balanced fully.

Why not give the Macmillan helpline a call and talk to somebody. The number used to be on every page here but after some so-called 'improvements' it takes a bit more effort to hunt it down. Try 0808 808 0000

    Best wishes

    Barbara
