Hi. I've been diagnosed a few weeks back, and starting Chemo and Radiotherapy tomorrow (5-6 weeks). I'm normally a very private and independent person, so preparing to have to ask for help feels quite daunting. I have put out a call so I can set a Facebook support team of a few friends - trying to 'practice what I preach', rather than my usual hiding away.... I am quite scared about side effects - especially pain, radiation burns, fatigue, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting... I'm not sure if I'm as brave as I try to appear? Good to discover an online community like this, and I'm looking forward to finding my way around more. Nga mihi, 'Astralita'
Hi Astralita and a warm welcome to the Online Community although so sorry to hear about your diagnosis, this is such a hard time for you but I do hope you will find lots of comfort and support from people who understand here on the Online Community.
We do have a number of members from around the world drop in but it is important to understand that the Macmillan Online Community deals mainly with UK treatments and treatment on the NHS so do be mindful of this.
The New to Community area is like our reception where you can be signposted on to our many dedicated support groups and I see you have already joined our Anal cancer group. This is a safe place to talk to other people who might have a similar diagnosis or treatment experience.
If you'd like to connect in with this group click on the Green link I have created above. Then you can then introduce yourself by putting up a new post by clicking in the box near the top right with + New (Computers) or + (Mobile Devices). You will then see a dropdown menu so why not hit ‘Start a Discussion in New here, say hello’
You could copy and paste the text from this your first post. You can also search through existing ‘Discussions’ and click [reply] if you want to put up a comment.
You may also find our Ask an Expert section helpful as well.
To find information covering diagnosis, treatments and pages covering most types of cancers check our Online Information and Support Section.
Always around if you need further help in navigating the community.
All the very best.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
