I had a Hickman line inserted a week ago and I'd like to hear from anyone else who has one. How do you keep it in place (the tube, I mean)? I use micropore tape at night and tuck it into my bra during the day but how can you be sure movement doesn't tug it unnecessarily. All the info I read is different from mine - my op went in via my neck for insertion as well as chest and it feels very uncomfortable (neck dressing will be removed next week). There is also a lot of unfamiliarity with the line and it's difficult to find an 'expert' to talk to about my concerns.
Hi Miggle and a warm welcome to the Online Community but so sorry to you joining us. I do hope you will find lots of comfort and support from people who understand here on the Online Community.
I had 4 Hickman Lines over my many years of treatment and once I get past the ‘what is this thing!!’ doing in my body they were ok and saved me having many many cannulas put in. My line were put in various places including my neck and I had no real problems with them but you may want to talk with others who have the same cancer and treatments.
The community is divided up into different support groups so if you want to tell me what type of cancer you are being treated for I can give you a direct link to that group. Alternatively you can look through this list and choose the appropriate one for you.
These groups are safe places to talk to other people who might have a similar diagnosis or treatment experience.
If you'd like to connect into this group, you need to join the group. First click on the Green link I have created above. Then click on the black banner that says [click to join] at the bottom, or the [Join] button under "Group tools."
You can then introduce yourself by putting up a new post by clicking in the box near the top right with + New (Computers) or + (Mobile Devices). You will then see a dropdown menu so why not hit ‘Start a Discussion in New here, say hello’
You could copy and paste the text from this your first post. You can also search through existing ‘Discussions’ and click [reply] if you want to put up a comment.
