Hi there, I am new to the community. Thanks for letting me join.
After a pre-op assessment ahead of a full knee replacement, we were shocked, stunned and devastated to discover my partner has elevated WBC, and Lymphocytes. Diagnosis is (potential) CLL.
We were shocked, as he presents no generic symptoms other than severe vertigo, which came on suddenly last month having never experienced vertigo previously. He tires easily, but we put this down to his arthritis.
We have an appointment with a haematologist on the 3rd Dec. Our GP seems to think with his readings he may be classed as ‘watch and wait’
My question to you: Has anyone had a full knee replacement with CLL, and/or, experienced vertigo as a symptom?
Thank you, very worrying and challenging times ahead…
Hi Molls58 and welcome to the Online Community although always sorry to see folks joining us. I am Mike Thehighlander and I help out around our blood cancer groups.
I don’t have CLL but was diagnosed way back in 1999 with a rare incurable but treatable type of skin NHL Stage 4a so I do understand this journey rather well unfortunately.
CLL is a slow growing type of blood cancer and Watch and Wait, I prefer Active Monitoring will often be the first step in the treatment. I have talked with a good number on this Community and through Lymphoma Action, a small but very active UK Lymphoma Specific Charity who have CLL and did not have treatment for years.
Chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) is a type of slow-growing (low-grade or indolent) non-Hodgkin lymphoma….. yes very confusing.
The Community has many dedicated support groups so can I recommend you start by joining our CLL, SLL, HCL group. This is a safe place to talk to other people who might have a similar diagnosis or treatment experience.
This will be a good place to ask your questions but I am not sure I have seen any one mention having a knee replacement but some have mentioned lightheadedness - vertigo???
If you'd like to connect into this group, you need to join the group. First click on the Green link I have created above. Then click on the black banner that says [click to join] at the bottom, or the [Join] button under "Group tools."
You can then introduce yourself by putting up a new post by clicking in the box near the top right with + New (Computers) or + (Mobile Devices). You will then see a dropdown menu so why not hit ‘Start a Discussion in New here, say hello’
You could copy and paste the text from this your first post. You can also search through existing ‘Discussions’ and click [reply] if you want to put up a comment.
I will keep an eye open for you in the CLL group but I will say at this point I was on Watch and Wait for 14 years before I needed big gun treatments.
Always around if you need further help in navigating the community.
All the very best ((hugs))
Thank you very much for your kind words and help.
