My Dad has been diagnosed with metastatic renal cell cancer with secondaries in liver and lung. It has been a lengthy process to say the least getting to today where he has finally seen an oncologist and given a treatment plan. If he can build himself up in the next two weeks with prednisalone and get as strong as possible he can start pazopanib which will hopefully ease symptoms and slow cancer growth. I feel the delay in getting liver biopsy and waiting for MDT and referrals to happen has allowed his condition to deteriorate which means he is frail. I felt he was going to be written off for just symptom management with prognosis of 3-6 months had we not been assertive on asking for treatment. Does anyone know anything about alternative immunotherapy or any other palliative treatment options I could research? Many thanks x
Hi and a warm welcome to the online community
I'm very sorry to read that your dad has recently been diagnosed with renal cell cancer which has spread to his liver and lungs and I know what a difficult time this will be for the whole family.
As you have found, the online community is divided up into different support groups and I can see that you've already found and joined the secondary liver cancer group.
I hope you don't mind me suggesting that you also join the kidney cancer group, which is a great places to ask questions and share experiences about your dad's treatment, and also either the carers only group (if you are your dad's carer) or the family and friends group (if your not your dad's carer). Both of these groups are safe and supportive place to discuss your worries and emotions.
To join these groups just click on the links I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
It would be great if you could pop something about your dad's diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help.
x
