Hello I’m new to the group and sadly, we had the devastating news about 3 weeks ago that our mum, my best friend, has lung cancer. We wanted to hear prognosis and we’re shocked when we were told months, rather than years. I’m determined that her time left with us won’t be sad, because we’ve always been a close, happy little family, so I’m putting on a brave face but inside my heart is breaking. I wondered if anyone had any suggestions on memorable things we can do together? I’m trying so hard to find positives, but I know mum won’t want to see us all being sad. She just needs to decide whether to give chemo a go or not.

  • Hi and a warm welcome to the online community

I'm very sorry to read that your mum has recently been diagnosed with lung cancer and I can understand how devastated you all will be feeling right now.

I can see that you've already joined and posted in the lung cancer group and I'm sure you'll find that the group is a great place to ask questions and share experiences around your mum's treatment.

You are asking about suggestions for memorable things to do with your mum so I thought you might also like to join the supporting someone with incurable cancer group which is a safe and supportive place for anyone who has a loved one with a terminal diagnosis to discuss their emotions and look for ways to make the most of life.

If you'd like to join this group just click on the link I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could pop a little something about your mum's diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help.

Thank you - I will join the other group now. Thank you for making me feel welcomed and supported. I don’t really open up to friends how I’m feeling as I need to put on by brave face for mum.
