Hi
Newbie
I am a 62+ mum of 3 with previous cervical cancer at the age of 27. I have always had lumpy boobs with a fibroadenoma in right breast at the age of 30. I recently noticed a new thickening area in the right breast. Went to dr who was unconcerned but referred me to the breast unit anyway. Saw the nurse practitioner who found the thickening and also a swollen lymph node under right armpit. I had a mammogram followed by ultrasound both of which showed benign breast tissue. That was 2 wks ago. The thickening has now spread further round the breast under the arm and up to shoulder. My question is should i pay for an MRI to put my mind at rest or just forget it..? I have heard so much about ILC not showing on mammograms and ultrasounds and no biopsy was done any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Dalip
Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community
I'm sorry to read that you've recently been diagnosed with breast cancer and it's natural to have questions.
I can see that you've joined the breast cancer group which is a great place to ask questions, share experiences and get support. When you're ready to post there clicking on the link I've created will take you straight there where you can start a new post and introduce yourself and also join in with existing conversations.
It would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

Hi If the thickening is spreading I would contact your GP and see what they think. It could be the GP themselves will decide to refer you for more tests and if not you might be able to persuade them to. Or they might be able to reassure you that the spreading of the thickening of benign tissue is normal and nothing to worry about.
Either way I would go back to your GP as a starting point.
Hope you are able to get the answers you need so you have peace of mind.
Sorry but i have not been diagnosed with breast cancer. Just wanted some advice.
Sorry I mis-read your post. However, the breast cancer group will still be a good place to discuss your concerns with others who may have experienced something similar.

Thanks i am away next week for 10 days so have decided to try to forget about it(maybe just feel the lumps/thickening 3 times a day instead of 50) then i will contact dr as you say she may agree and i need a referral letter from her anyway regardless of if i go private or not. Thanks for the prompt reply.x
