Hello

My wife has melanoma that has spread into her lungs and brain. She had been diagnosed as end of life, but a really rare unintended effect of previous radiotherapy on her brain meant that her own immune system starting fighting the cancer. This allowed the medical team to start her on a course of immunotherapy.

However her mental health is really suffering and I think she is slipping into depression. She won't see any friends, which is really important to the success of the treatment.

Her eyesight has been affected by the melanoma so she can't read or write from tablets or her phone.

I am really looking for ways she can be helped with her mental welfare.

  • Hi and a warm welcome to the online community

I'm sorry to read that your wife has melanoma. I too had a melanoma diagnosis a number of years ago and I found that talking to others in the melanoma group a great help.

I can see that you've already joined the melanoma group and I know if you post there you'll get plenty of support. Maybe you could read out the replies to your wife, as you say that she can't use her tablet or phone now, and she would discover that there are others having the same or similar treatment to her.

When you're ready to post in the group just click on the link I've created and you could copy and paste your post from here into a new post there. You can also join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'

It would be great if you could pop something about your wife's diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

I'll keep an eye out for you in the group.

  • Hi

Thank you for asking after me. I'm just coming towards the end of my 5 year monitoring having been diagnosed with melanoma in November 2016. You can read about my journey with melanoma if you click on my username or picture.

I really hope that your wife will get comfort from hearing about others who are having immunotherapy and doing really well with it.
