Hi my son has learning disabilities and has been diagnosed with kidney cancer I'm distraught thinking what he will have to go through with his limited understanding, we saw consultant 2wks ago he said the cancer hasn't spread so they will operate using keyhole surgery but still sounds horrendous for my son and I told the doctor that for around 8wks he has had a pain in his upper thigh near the groin which someone who my daughter knows also had with his kidney cancer but neither the gp or the consultant seemed to be concerned is this a symptom of kidney cancer the original CT scan was done in June it's now Oct any help would be appreciated...
Hi Lolly67 and a warm welcome to the online community
I'm very sorry to read that your son has recently been diagnosed with kidney cancer and I know what a difficult time this will be for you.
It's natural to have questions and as the online community is divided up into different support groups I'm going to recommend that you join the kidney cancer group which is great places to ask questions and share experiences. I'm also going to recommend that you join the carers only group which is a safe and supportive place to discuss your worries and emotions around caring for your son.
To join just click on the links I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
It would be great if you could pop something about your son's diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help.
