Hi everyone,

Typing this message feels so surreal but I think it would be a real help to talk with others.

my name’s Ellie, I’m 26 and a mental health nurse and my mum told me she has been diagnosed with breast cancer on Sunday.

I’ve taken emergency annual leave to be with her and work through the logistics of appointments and to be strong for her, but it’s so hard. She’s my best friend and I’m so scared I’ll lose her.

Thought I would introduce myself and find some help to help me cope as I don’t want to cause her any more panic or stress at this time. I hope everyone is well and looking after themselves too.

  • Hi  and welcome to the online community

I'm sorry to read that your mum has recently been diagnosed with breast cancer and I know what a tough time this will be for you both.

The online community is divided up into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the breast cancer group, where you can ask questions and share experiences around treatment etc, and also either the carers only group, if you are your mum's carer, or the family and friends group if you're not her carer. These last two groups are both safe and supportive place to discuss your worries and emotions and to get support.

To join just click on the links I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could pop something about your mum's diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help.
