Hi my mum has chemo and radiotherapy over 1yr ago, she has been given the all clear but is suffering still with nausea and weight loss. Her GP is at a loss what to do and oncology are not interested...she is feeling very low, shaky all the time and hot flushes which is not menopause as past that. She struggles to eat due to keeping things down. They have given her high calorie drinks but again struggling with keeping them down. She also suffers with her mouth being sore and trying to keep it moist...Anyone have any advice
Hi and welcome to the online community
I'm sorry to read about your mum and it sounds like a very difficult time for you both.
The online community is divided up into different support groups and if you would like to tell me what type of cancer she was treated for I could give you a direct link to that group where you can ask your question and get support. Alternatively you could look through this list and choose the appropriate one.
You might also like to join the family and friends group which is a safe and supportive place to share your worries and emotions with others who have a family member living with cancer.
To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
It would be great if you could pop something about your mum's diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help.
x
Hi,. Sorry to hear about your mum feeling so unwell still. The treatments themselves can have long lasting side effects too and I'm sure she needs recovery time from them. Our bodies become very run down and prone to infections.
I notice you said her mouth was sore, has her GP checked her mouth for oral thrush? It can show up as red and inflamed and/or with white patches. Sometimes it can infect the digestive tract too and affect appetite etc. It can be easily treated. You can also access more specific medical info on this Macmillan site too.
Hope that might help x
