Hi all, my name is Cat and I am new to the forum. My lovely Father In Law was diagnosed with Mesothelioma last year and has been receiving immunotherapy. Earlier this week he disclosed that he was coughing up blood and has been for some time-we were advised to urgently take him to A&E which we did and he was admitted to hospital.
Unfortunately we were informed this evening that he now has Covid which he has caught in hospital (he was negative on admission) and my Mother in Law and husband are distraught that their visit earlier today may be the last time they see him,
Does anyone have any experience or positive stories of people with type of cancer surviving Covid?
Thank you
Hi and welcome to the Online Community.
I am so sorry to read about your father in law’s diagnosis and that he is now in hospital dealing with Covid but I do hope you will find the support available in the community helpful at this difficult and challenging time.
I have talked with many people (with different cancers) who have went through Covid both at home and in hospital while having treatment so let’s hope for things to improve.
Talking with others who are walking the exact same type of cancer support path (my one is completely different) will help you navigate this unwanted journey.
The New to Community is like the Community Reception area and as there are many cancer types and experiences so likewise the Community has many dedicated support groups and I see you have joined our Mesothelioma group as this will be a good place for you to connect with other folks who may be on the same cancer support pathway.
Navigating the community will depend on the device you are using. To go to the group just click on the green link above then introduce yourself by putting up a post by clicking on ‘New Thread’ or ‘New here, say hello’ then hit the box with the X on the top right (phones).
You could just copy and paste the text from this your first post and you can also join in with existing ‘Discussions’ by clicking on 'reply'.
When it comes to the practical challenges of supporting someone you may benefit from talking with others caring for family and friends so can I recommend that you join our supportive Family and friends and Supporting someone with incurable cancer groups where you will connect with others supporting family and friends

Thank you so much, he is now being discharged today at very short notice with Covid which we are worried about as his home situation is complicated-he is the main carer for his wife-my mother in law who is living with Dementia. We are just trying to manage things as best we can
Sorry to hear how things are developing so quickly. It’s all about pushing the ‘system’ to get all the help that is available. Do connect in with the the Family and friends and Supporting someone with incurable cancer groups as these are the people who are walking this part of the journey ((hugs))
