  • Hi Dave and a very warm welcome to the online community

Unfortunately it can be more difficult to find travel insurance when you have had a cancer diagnosis.

As the online community is divided up into different support groups can I recommend that you join us over in the travel insurance group where you can see recommendations from others who have successfully obtained travel insurance.

To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens.

Once you've joined the group look for the thread called 'recommended travel insurance', which is always on the first page of the discussions list, as it's where the majority of recommendations from other forum members are.

It's best to phone the insurance companies rather than try and do online quotes as often at the end of the online quote it will tell you to phone the company and you'll then have to go through all the information again. Also sometimes the broker can refer to the underwriters to see if they would provide cover when an online quote might just give you a straight refusal.

I'm sorry if I've misinterpreted what you have written but I think you were diagnosed with bowel cancer three years ago and this has now metastasised to another area of your body. Is this correct?

You then say that the insurers don't understand this but in my experience more or less the first question I'm asked once I've answered yes to having had cancer is 'has it spread to other parts of the body'? If this is the case for you then answering yes will then probably prompt further questions around whether you're being treated or not.
