Hello everyone

I'm new to Macmillan as I was only diagnosed with breast cancer 3 weeks ago and don't begin chemotherapy until next Thursday. At the moment I've no idea how I'll respond to treatment - the only thing I have been told is that I will lose my hair - which is really hard as its been long for 25+ years. So I'm looking for some advice on the best and most reliable sites to visit to look for some nice head wear.

Nothing too showy for the moment! I not looking for anything that's an attempt to 'hide' what's happening. Just comfy, wearable indoors and out. And maybe looks 'pretty'?!

I've already looked at simply wigs, chemotherapyheadwear and hats4heads. Are these any good?

I'm still struggling to get my head round my diagnosis so any advice you can give which be very much appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community.

I am so sorry to read about your BC diagnosis but I hope you will find the support available in the community helpful at this difficult and challenging time.

Talking with others who are walking the same type of cancer treatment path will help you navigate this unwanted journey.

I see you have joined and posted in a few groups especially our supportive Breast cancer group as this will be a good place for you to connect with other folks who may be on the same cancer treatment pathway.

It’s always good to talk so do call the Macmillan Support Services on 0808 808 00 00 - most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week Clicking here to see what is available. This service provides lots of cancer information, emotional support, financial guidance or just a listening ear.

    All the very best ((hugs))

Thank you so much for your lovely reply. I know I'm at the start of a long, hard journey and it's great to know there's support when I need it.

My Macmillan nurse has already been a great support - and explains everything to me in 'normal words' - which is great as I'm a bit overwhelmed at the moment.

    Thank you again.

  • Safe to say that once you get into your journey and start talking with others in the Breast cancer group things will start to make more sense and the noise between your ears will calm down ((hugs))
