Waiting for diagnosis (new here)

Hi

I'm new here. Dr has urgently referred me to the hospital (two different depts). I don't know if it's GP being thorough after some abnormal test results.

I have lost both parents to cancer, and I'm young and healthy so this is a bit of a shock to say the least.

I tried to keep it in my mind that an urgent referral doesn't have to be a bad thing, and I'm lucky that we have such excellent cancer care.

But I am now overwhelmed by the tests etc.

I'm at the GP tomorrow. At the hospital twice next week. And the same the following.

I will be glad when I can speak to a doctor face to face and get some clarity.

I'm trying not to worry, but it's a bit hard to do anything else.

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community.

I am so sorry to read about the journey your family have been on and about you being referred for tests but I hope you will find the support available in the community helpful at this difficult and challenging time.

Talking with others who are walking the same type of cancer treatment path may help you navigate this unwanted journey.

The community is divided up into different support groups  but you don’t say what type of cancer is being looked at but you can look through this list groups and choose the appropriate group for you as these will be good places for you to connect with other folks who may be on the same cancer treatment pathway.

Navigating the community will depend on the device you are using. To join a group a group choose 'click to join' or 'join' on the page that opens.

You can then introduce yourself by putting up a post by clicking  on ‘New Thread’ or ‘New here, say hello’ then hit the box with the X on the top right (phones).

You could just copy and paste the text from this your first post and you can also join in with existing ‘Discussions’ by clicking on 'reply'.

It’s always good to talk so do call the Macmillan Support Services on 0808 808 00 00 - most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week Clicking here to see what is available. This service provides lots of cancer information, emotional support, financial guidance or just a listening ear.

    All the very best.
