My hubby was diagnosed with MM Aug 2019.

A massive shock as he had always been very fit and healthy.

He had SCT Oct 2020 and is currently doing OK.

Would like to know how difficult/easy it has been for people to claim PIP please as it's been suggested we do this.

  • Hi  and welcome to the community. I am Mike  and I help out around our blood cancer groups but more importantly I have had 2 Allo (Donor) SCT so you may want to join and post in our dedicated Stem cell transplant group where you can connect with others on this journey.

With regards to PIP it’s all about meeting the criteria, having an incredible cancer like MM does to give automatic access to PIP but he will have to meet the criteria below.

You can get Personal Independence Payment (PIP) whether you’re working or not.

You must be aged 16 or over and usually have not reached State Pension age to claim.

You must also have a physical or mental health condition or disability where you:

    • have had difficulties with daily living or getting around (or both) for 3 months
    • expect these difficulties to continue for at least 9 months

I did get PIP but needed the help of a Macmillan Benefits adviser as it’s not that simple so do call the Macmillan Support Services on 0808 808 00 00 - most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week Clicking here to see what is available. and talk with the benefits team.

I will keep an eye open for you in the SCT Group.
