My close friend has been diagnosed with terminal cancer, right through his body. He only had a cough Dr said it would get better in time was just one of those coughs. Months on coughing getting worse and feeling tired, so back to Dr and this is the news. How can someone be working away normal life one day to receive this news and go down so quick.been told only a few weeks to live. I am In total shock and heartbroken. How can I support my friend at this time as she has her own health issues and worried how she will cope when her husband goes.
Hi and welcome to the Online Community.
I am so sorry to read about your friends terminal cancer diagnosis but I hope you will find the support available in the community helpful at this difficult and challenging time.
Talking with others who are walking the same type of support journey (my one is completely different) will help you navigate this unwanted journey.
The New to Community is like the Community Reception area and as there are many cancer types and experiences so likewise the Community has many support groups and when it comes to the practical challenges of supporting someone you may benefit from talking with others caring for family and friends so can I recommend that you join our supportive Family and friends and Supporting someone with incurable cancer groups where you will connect with others supporting family and friends
Knowing that someone you love is incurable can be very hard and you might like to take a look at this information from Macmillan on your feelings when someone has cancer and especially this section on looking after yourself. If you're starting to struggle then it would be a good idea to have a chat with your GP.
It’s always good to talk so do call the Macmillan Support Services on 0808 808 00 00 - most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week Clicking here to see what is available. This service provides lots of cancer information, support, financial guidance or just a listening ear.
All the very best ((hugs))
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
