I have just been diagnosed with Grade 3 breast cancer, they say they are out to cure but my mental health is really struggling. I am currently undergoing chemo but I have no idea what I should be doing in my day to day life, really struggling not going to work and the huge change this has had on my life. Still got about 6 months of chemo wondering if there are any tips or advice from people to help pass this time.

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community.

I am so sorry to read about your BC diagnosis but I hope you will find the support available in the community helpful at this difficult and challenging time.

Talking with others who are walking the same type of cancer treatment journey (my one is completely different) will help you navigate this challenging time.

The New to Community is like the Community Reception area and as there are many cancer types and experiences so likewise the Community has many support groups so can I recommend you start by joining our supportive Breast cancer and Breast cancer for the under-50s group as this will be a good place for you to connect with other folks who may be on the same cancer treatment pathway.

Navigating the community will depend on the device you are using. To join a group just click on the green link above then scroll down and choose 'click to join' or 'join' on the page that opens.

You can then introduce yourself by putting up a post by clicking  on ‘New Thread’ or ‘New here, say hello’ then hit the box with the X on the top right (phones).

You could just copy and paste the text from this your first post and you can also join in with existing ‘Discussions’ by clicking on 'reply'.

It’s always good to talk so do call the Macmillan Support Services on 0808 808 00 00 - most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week Clicking here to see what is available. This service provides lots of cancer information, support, financial guidance or just a listening ear.

To find information covering diagnosis, treatments and pages covering most types of cancers check our Online Information and Support Section

    All the very best ((hugs))

I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer 18mths ago. Unfortunately I was also in a bad relationship as well. I don’t know how your managing on the chemo but when you are feeling up to it leave the house and go for walks. Try not to sit alone in your room alone too much. I have a couple of treatments left but my mental health has become unmanageable. I sat alone in my room day after day as my depression got worse. I wasn’t given any help from any groups which was partly my own fault. If I could give you any advice it would be to seek help and advice from cancer care and speak to someone there about how your feeling. Don’t let your mental health deteriorate like mine has

  • Just about managing to get out for short walks but tiredness comes in waves a lot of the time I’m back to being stuck on the sofa, luckily I have a great support system and plenty of family and friends to talk to. I have reached out and got some counselling arranged to help me deal with the impact it has had on my mental health because I don’t want the stress to make me even more poorly
