Just a quick intro to say hello to all you amazing warriors out there dealing with various cancers in all its forms.
I've been recently diagnosed with Myeloma, a type of blood cancer and am about to have a PET CT scan to check for any further cancer outside my bones or for lymphoma as I have swollen lymph glands and they do not know why. Yes you can have more than one blood cancer at a time, trying not to think about it.
I live alone so the prospect of facing chemo and stem cell transplants fills me with some dread as to how I will actually cope alone in a practical way. My son lives nearby but young child in nursery is a high infection risk.
Apparently the Covid vaccine is potentially not very effective in blood cancer patients so another worry. It appears that so many people have given up the idea of wearing masks in shops etc and I no longer feel safe at all in any shops or where there are people.
Wondering how others are coping with Covid and cancer treatment alone and what support might be available?
Stay strong everyone x
Hi and a warm welcome to the Online Community. I'm sorry to read of your diagnosis and can understand your worries now people appear to have ditched all distancing, mask wearing etc now they feel the pandemic is over. I had to go to all my scans and tests alone last year as it was in the middle of the pandemic and was told over the phone I had cancer by a nurse, not a face to face (mask to mask) chat with a consultant. I myself had brachytherapy, not chemo so I can't offer any advice I'm sorry to say.
I'm going to suggest you join our Myeloma group where you'll be able to chat with other members making the same cancer journey. Just click on the link I've created and join. Copy and paste this post to introduce yourself.
I'm also sending a tag to who is the Champion for the group and he'll be along to welcome you.
