My husband was diagnosed with Advanced stage 4 kidney cancer in February 2021. We were told the only treatment was immunotherapy. he started treatment on 31st March, he then had his second treatment 22nd April after which he rea ted quite badly and ended up in hospital for 5 days. They then put him on steroids they got him off steroids at the beginning of July.  He at to wait until the end of July before he could have a scan his first sine the start of treatment he was then informed he would have to wait until 24 August before he could see his oncologist and restart treatment. He was informed there was a backlog. When he eventually et his oncologist she informed us that the cancer had spread. He is. Ow on a different treatment but I must admit I don’t have much faith in his oncologist. Last Thursday he felt ok so we travelled to see our eldest son’s family after three days with them he caught an infection and had to to to A & E they put him on antibiotics and thankfully he is getting stronger.

Sorry for the ramblings but I just needed to get things off my chest.

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community but so sorry to hear about your husband's diagnosis and the bumps in the journey you have had to navigate.

A cancer diagnosis in the family can be very challenging but talking with others who are walking the same type of cancer treatment support journey (my one is completely different) will help you navigate this difficult time.

The New to Community is like the Community Reception area and as there are many cancer types and experiences so likewise the Community has many support groups but I see you have joined our supportive Kidney cancer group as this will be a good place for you to connect with other folks who may be on the same cancer treatment pathway.

Navigating the community will depend on the device you are using. To go to the group just click on the green link above then introduce yourself by putting up a post by clicking  on ‘New Thread’ or ‘New here, say hello’ then hit the box with the X on the top right (phones).

You could just copy and paste the text from this your first post and you can also join in with existing ‘Discussions’ by clicking on 'reply'.

When it comes to the practical challenges of supporting someone you may benefit from talking with others caring for family and friends so do check out our Carers only group where you will connect with others supporting family and friends

It’s always good to talk so do call the Macmillan Support Services on 0808 808 00 00 - most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week Clicking here to see what is available. This service provides lots of cancer information, support, financial guidance or just a listening ear.

To find information covering diagnosis, treatments and pages covering most types of cancers check our Online Information and Support Section

    All the very best ((hugs))
