Hi,
long story short by daughter had treatment for blood cancer when she was ten and has been a fit and healthy person since remission. She is now in her early 30s. She was offered the COVID jab in cohort 6 which kind of took us by surprise as it was such a long time ago. Now it’s thrown us all into a bit of a quandary as to why?
Hi and welcome to the Online Community.
I am Mike and I help out around our blood cancer groups. I was diagnosed way back in 1999 with a rare incurable but treatable type of skin Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma Stage 4a but am over 6 years out from my last treatments, 5 years in remission and had both the jabs.
It is widely recognised that people who have a blood cancer and who are even years into remission ‘may’ have a weaker than normal immune system so may have a more severe reaction to Covid but the best people to talk with would be her clinical team or GP
We also have our Cancer Nurse Team in our Ask an Expert section, but do allow two working days for replies from our expert team.
Thank you, I like your emphasis on “may” i literally cannot remember the last time a drs visit was required for her so we should be thankful that her immune system is probably all tickety boo and then be grateful of the early vaccine! It’s just that it’s caused some thoughts and concerns that maybe had be tucked away
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
