HI - I'm really not sure if I'm in the right place, but I've just been diagnosed with (a sometimes pre-cancerous condition) called Lichen sclerosis of the penis. If I'm honest, I'm completely freaked out about it. I'm 63 years old, and already have two chronic conditions as I'm HIV+ and have Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia. and take medications for both conditions. I will be attending a clinic in October at UCH, but was wondering if anyone can give me any dietary tips/suggestions of things that might help. I've been told to use an emollient cream to wash with, and am taking the necessary steps in cleanliness.
Thank you - any information will be useful. There's not a great deal online, regarding this condition in men.
Hi and welcome to the online community
Having a new diagnosis is a scary time and it's natural to try and find as much information as you can. I have had a quick look and found this information from BAD (British Association of Dermatologists) about lichen sclerosus in men.
As the online community is divided up into different support groups I'm going to recommend that you join the penile cancer group where you might find other men with lichen sclerosus.
To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
It would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help.
