Hello, my dad has recently been diagnosed with hodgkinsons lymphoma. He has had 2 glands in his neck removed but it has spread quite a lot. He's had one chemo session and due his second next week. His first resulted in several days of feeling okay and then suddenly feeling really terrible, and still does. His white blood cells were dangerously low on check up this week and he had to have an emergency transfusion. He's now also having to self inject due to an issue with his bone marrow. These injections have caused him to feel even worse with temperature, and at one point so cold he couldn't even
speak. He also wet himself twice.. He is 80 years old and an old school man's man. He wouldn't let my mum contact the hospital. Im worried whether these reactions are all normal, and as we only
early in the treatment, what we can expect given the awfulness of this first 2 weeks. We are all worried sick and my poor mum has to see this every day and care for him with no experience, and not totally
fit or young herself. We all worried sick going forward
Hi Amanda18 and welcome to the online community
I'm really sorry to read that your dad has recently been diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma and that after his first chemo session he is feeling really ill. Although I haven't had chemo I do know that it's very important that he contacts his chemo unit if he has any adverse reactions. He should have been given an emergency 24 hour a day contact number to call and he should do that now.
The online community is divided up into different support groups I'm going to recommend that you join the Hodgkin lymphoma group which is a great place to ask questions, share experiences and get support.
You might also like to join the family and friends group which is a safe and supportive place to share your feelings and get support.
To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
It would be great if you could pop something about your dad's diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help.
