I was diagnosed 14 months ago with terminal kidney cancer that has returned and spread to my lungs, I am taking Pazonib which seems to be working at the moment, I said I would fight it all the way but recently I have started to get black days where I can’t really see the light. I can’t even get travel insurance at a decent price it’s as if I am a leper or if I invented COVID-19. You try to live what life you have to the fullest but there is always someone who knocks you down

  • Hi and welcome to the Online Community but so sorry to hear about your diagnosis.

A cancer diagnosis like this can be very challenging in so many ways and Covid for some has intensified the daily hurdles we all have to navigate.

I have an incurable type of blood cancer and have had years of treatments. It’s been 22 years now and I have no idea ‘if’ and when my condition is going to kick off again and ‘if’ we will have the next tool in the box to put it to sleep again. I think fitness I have developed the ability to live with my cancer and not let it define me although Covid has made this that more challenging.

You may find talking with others who are walking the same type of cancer journey will help you navigate and deal with this difficult time.

The New to Community is like the Community Reception area and as there are many cancer types and experiences so likewise the Community has many support groups so can I recommend you start of by joining our supportive Living with incurable cancer - incurable patients only group as this will be a good place to connect with folks who are on the same type of pathway.

Navigating the community will depend on the device you are using. To join a group just click on the green link above then scroll down and choose 'click to join' or 'join' on the page that opens.

You can then introduce yourself by putting up a post by clicking  on ‘New Thread’ or ‘New here, say hello’ then hit the box with the X on the top right (phones).

You could just copy and paste the text from this your first post and you can also join in with existing ‘Discussions’ by clicking on 'reply'.

It’s always good to talk so do call the Macmillan Support Services on 0808 808 00 00 - most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week Clicking here to see what is available. This service provides lots of cancer information, support, financial guidance or just a listening ear.

We also have Cancer Nurse Team in our Ask an Expert section, but do allow two working days for replies from our expert team.

    All the very best.
