Hi! I'm here because my husband is very sick. He has Stage IV prostate cancer and we were buying time on that one with hormone therapy, which has just stopped being effective after almost 6 years.  Just had a huge shock that he now has unrelated cancer in his sinus, itsaround his eye, in cheekbone and jaw. We were told yesterday its incurable. Still waiting to see the consultant to see if there's anything they can do. It took us 6 months to get him seen, he was sent to a&E twice by our GP, but they sent him away with antibiotics. They started to take it seriously when a lesion on his palate started to open. He is bleeding from mouth and nose constantly and can't eat solid food.

I think I just wanted to talk about it, because the rest of the family are in the picture, but are not aware of the sheer suffering and trauma this is. I feel traumatised watching him and am trying to remain positive.  He's on morphine constantly now and hallucinates and sleeps about 22/24. I've adult children, so has he, but don't want to dump on them, they can't do anything.

Positive note, I've managed to get his weight up to near normal, he lost a stone, by shakes and making homemade soup. It's a horrible time, I'm rambling a bit but I'm all over the place at the moment. It's so brutal. I was adental nurse and worked theatre, but its different when it's a loved one.

Thanks for allowing me to unload some.

  • Hi  and welcome to the online community

I'm very sorry to read how poorly your husband is and I know what a difficult time this will be for the whole family.

The online community is divided up into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the prostate cancer group which is a great place to ask questions and share experiences. You might also like to look at joining the carers only group which is a safe and supportive place to share your worries with others who have a loved one with cancer.

To join either or both of these groups just click on the links I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could pop something about your husband's diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help.
