Terrified

Good morning.

I have just been told I am to have life changing surgery to try and remove a huge tumour which is currently taking up residence in my abdomen.
I am 27 with two young children and on my own with them. I’ve been told I am likely going to have a hysterectomy and be left with a stoma bag.
My family are great but they just don’t get it. I am terrified of having this surgery for so many reasons. I have previously been on chemo and it hasn’t touched the tumour so they are taking the risk and performing surgery.
Not sure what my aim of this post is, I just needed to get it out.

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community

I'm sorry to read that you need surgery soon and that you're terrified about having this. It can be very difficult for people who have not had cancer to understand our worries and feelings but you've come to the right place for support while you're going through this.

The online community is divided up into different support groups so I wonder if you could tell me what type of cancer you have so I can direct you to the right group where you can ask questions, share experiences and get support.

Alternatively you could look through this list and join the right one for you. Once you've joined you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversation by clicking on the 'reply' button.

It would be great if you could pop something about your journey to this point into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help.

    1. Hi Paddleboarder... I've just been diagnosed with mets in the abdomen and finding out on Tuesday my treatment plan. I can totally relate to your family comment. They are brilliantly supportive aren'they? but unless you're going through it noone can understand the myriad of emotions assaulting you all at once.  I've decided it's ok to be terrified and I'm trying to take life a second at a time and staying focussed on the things I love to do like being outside walking in lovely places and the job I love etc. It's a lonely place this cancer malarkey isn't it? We all need to get out on a walk together! Blush
