Hi everybody, my mum has been given a diagnosis of primary cutaneous diffuse large B cell lymphoma - leg type at the same time as a diagnosis of squamous cell skin cancer on her head. She has recently been told by the radiologist that as she has multiple lesions on her leg radiology is a waste of time. She is 87 years old, lives on her own and is diabetic, has a pacemaker and has had previous tumours (benign) removed from her spinal cord and parathyroid gland. She is not in very good health and recently suffered a severe infection after her biopsy which landed her in hospital for six days. The radiologist thought chemo would be a bad idea for mum but the oncologist had a different view and she is following his advice and commencing a course of Etoposide and Prednisolone shortly. Any advice or suggestions especially on side effects and quality of life would be gratefully received. Many thanks.
Hi and welcome to the online community
I'm sorry to read about your mum's recent diagnoses and I know what a difficult time this will be for the whole family.
As the online community is divided up into different support groups I'm going to recommend that you join the diffuse large B-cell lymphoma group and also the skin cancer group. Both groups are great places to ask questions, share experiences and get support from others who have the same type of cancers as your mum.
To join these groups just click on the links I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
It would be great if you could pop something about your mum's diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help.
x
Hi and warm welcome to the Macmillan Online Community although sorry that you had to find us and especially sorry to hear about your mum’s Lymphoma diagnosis.
I am Mike and I help out around our blood cancer groups. I was diagnosed back in 1999 with a rare skin Cutaneous T-Cell Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma (there are over 60 types of Lymphoma) so have been on this journey rather a long time.
The New to Community is like the Community Reception area and as there are many cancer types and experiences so likewise the Community has many support groups so can I recommend you start of by joining our supportive General Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma group as you will connect with others who have walked the treatment journey.
Navigating the community will depend on the device you are using.
To join a group just click on the green link above then scroll down and choose 'click to join' or 'join' on the page that opens.
You can then introduce yourself by putting up a post by clicking on ‘New Thread’ or ‘New here, say hello’ then hit the box with the X on the top right (phones).
You could just copy and paste the text from this your first post. You can also join in with existing ‘Discussions’ by clicking on 'reply'.
I will keep an eye open for you in the group.
