Hi, I don't have a formal diagnosis yet, so I hope it is OK to join. I saw my GP on Monday with very ominous symptoms and he has referred me to the breast clinic at the local hospital but the appointment isn't until 31 August. This is a tough time waiting for confirmation and I wondered if anyone has any advice on whether/when to let people know that cancer is a likely possibility? So far, only my husband knows but its hard seeing my family and saying nothing - it feels like a huge thing. I think my husband would benefit from some support from the wider family too but I don't want to jump the gun and worry them too early. I'm also going to have to tell my employer because of the appointment and it feels disloyal to let them know before my family. Thanks.
Hi loobylou16 and welcome to the Online Community but so sorry to hear about your ongoing diagnosis.
Cancer investigations can be very challenging but talking with others who are walking the same type of cancer journey (my one is completely different) will help you navigate this difficult time.
The New to Community is like the Community Reception area and as there are many cancer types and experiences so likewise the Community has many support groups so can I recommend you start of by joining our supportive Breast cancer group as this will be a good place to connect with folks who may be on the same cancer treatment pathway.
Navigating the community will depend on the device you are using. To join a group just click on the green link above then scroll down and choose 'click to join' or 'join' on the page that opens.
You can then introduce yourself by putting up a post by clicking on ‘New Thread’ or ‘New here, say hello’ then hit the box with the X on the top right (phones).
You could just copy and paste the text from this your first post. You can also join in with existing ‘Discussions’ by clicking on 'reply'.
