Hi..I'm after some advice for my father in law please?
He has stage 3 small cell lung cancer and is due to have his 1st chemo treatment on Thursday. A GP has seen him today and said he has an infection and given him a course of antibiotics. However I have been told that antibiotics before chemotherapy can reduce survival chances? Now we don't know whether he should take them or not?
Hi A.ndrea welcome to the forum I don't know enough about the situation that you find yourselves in but I imagine that any infection will need treated with the Antibiotics and I doubt very much that chemo would be given when someone has an infection. I cant think that anti biotics would do anything else but help with the infection so not sure where the survival rate part is coming from.
All that said I think the best thing to do is to give the chemo unit where your Father in law will be having chemo a call and take their advice re this but you need to call in the am as any infection will get progressively worse and make our father in law ill.
