Hi I only learnt 3 weeks ago that I had some form of breast cancer. I’ve been for an MRI but am not sure how long it is before I see the consultant for a final diagnosis and plan. I’m feeling very odd in that I can’t get my head around it. 1 minute I know I have cancer and panic the next I think it’s not going to happen to me, it must be a mistake. On top of all this I’m Agoraphobic so travelling to hospitals for treatment is a complete nightmare. I lost my rock, my husband just over 3 years ago to:cancer so without him this seems like a mountain too big for me to climb. How are you all coping. Thanks for reading this, I hope it’s not too depressing.

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community. We all know what's going through your head at the moment as we've all been there. I’m sorry to read about your breast cancer diagnosis but you’ve come to the right place to talk to other people who are in the same situation and help you get through this.

My cancer is different, but a cancer diagnosis of any kind makes us ask lots of questions, causes confusion, stress and probably emotions we’ve never experienced before.  I see you've already joined our Breast cancer group, this will be a good place to connect with others making the same type of cancer journey. Copy and paste this post to introduce yourself if you haven't already.

I'm sorry to read you lost your husband 3 years ago but you've got to be positive, you're not alone and you can climb this mountain and get down the other side. I'm going to tag one of the Champs of the group  and I'm sure she'll be along to welcome you.

It’s always helpful to others if you write a little something (or a lot) about yourself and your journey to date. You can enter it into your profile (click on your username and select “Profile”) It’s helpful to other members with a similar diagnosis who can then hopefully answer your questions. It also means that you don't have to keep writing the same thing over and over. You can amend or update it at any time.

To find more information covering diagnosis and treatments there are pages covering most types of cancers which can be found on our Online Information and Support Section

The Macmillan Support Services also offer lots of information, support, financial guidance or just someone to listen. It’s free to call 0808 808 0000. Most services are available 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week. Have a look by Clicking here to see what is available and we also have our Ask an Expert section, but do allow two to three working days for replies from our expert team.

Sending you welcoming hugs B xx

Thank you for you kind reply.I’m blown away by the coincidence of ‘Barb and 1953’. I’ve updated my profile as suggested. Thank you for your help as I’m not that good on these website.
