Guilt

I feel guilty for being healthy. My wife was diagnosed with a rare exo stomach gist 18 months too late and is at stage 4. She is bloody amazing and so positive. This should not be about me and I was fine for the first 10 months then started to get anger issues, not helping either of us. Brutally honest, I've said some horrid things to my wife who has deserved none of them. Am I the only one to have behaved this appallingly?

Plenty

  • Hi and welcome to the Online Community but so sorry to hear about your wife’s diagnosis and the challenges you are dealing with. Cancer is difficult for everyone to deal with.

A cancer diagnosis in the family can be very challenging but talking with others who are walking the same type of cancer support journey (my one is completely different) will help you navigate this difficult time.

The New to Community is like the Community Reception area and as there are many cancer types and experiences so likewise the Community has many support groups so can I recommend you start of by joining our supportive Family and friends and Carers only groups where you will connect with others supporting family and friends

Navigating the community will depend on the device you are using. To join a group just click on the green link above then scroll down and choose 'click to join' or 'join' on the page that opens.

You can then introduce yourself by putting up a post by clicking  on ‘New Thread’ or ‘New here, say hello’ then hit the box with the X on the top right (phones).

You could just copy and paste the text from this your first post. You can also join in with existing ‘Discussions’ by clicking on 'reply'.

It’s always good to talk so do call the Macmillan Support Services on 0808 808 00 00 - most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week Clicking here to see what is available. This service provides lots of cancer information, support, financial guidance or just a listening ear.

We also have Cancer Nurse Team in our Ask an Expert section, but do allow two working days for replies from our expert team.

    All the very best ((hugs))

Many thanks Mike. Starting to pull my head in and realise my wife needs me and I need to learn self control and take small steps that help her battle this terrible Camcer

  • I will always say that the folks looking on can have as hard a journey than the person with the cancer……. My wife (my rock) has been with me through all the hard times over the past 22 years….. the thing I always endured was she was getting support from friends and family as it’s hard work supporting some on their Cancer rollercoaster.

Try connecting into the groups as this will help you ‘get’ that you are it alone in this.
