Good morning,
I'm new to all of this. My grandma was admitted into hospital last week as she was being sick quite alot and we had no idea what was causing it. She has now had her diagnosis with pancreatic cancer which sadly they can't treat with the spread of it to her liver bones and lungs. She has clear signs of jaundice. My grandma was released from hospital yesterday and we are going to help her alongside carers at home. I've just been completely worried as she has alot of medication and also anticipatory drugs. Now no district nurse has been to see my gran and basically paramedics dropped her back at home and explained that she now has a respect form in place and basically gave me a brief overview of her meds. Does the district nurse need to be informed that there are these anticipatory meds in place as on her notes it says to have them when required and I wanted just a bit of support to know when I should be doing this.
Hi and welcome to the Online Community but so sorry to hear about your grandma's diagnosis.
A cancer diagnosis like this in the family can be very challenging but talking with others who are walking the same type of cancer support journey (my one is completely different) will help you navigate this difficult time and get answers from people with first hand experience.
The New to Community is like the Community Reception area and as there are many cancer types and experiences so likewise the Community has many support groups so can I recommend you start of by joining our supportive Carers only and Supporting someone with incurable cancer groups where you will connect with others supporting family and friends
To join a group just click on the link above then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens.
You can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘New Thread’ or hit the box with the X on the top right (phones), you could just copy and paste the text from this your first post. You can also join in with existing ‘Discussions’ by clicking on 'reply'.
It’s always good to talk so do call the Macmillan Support Services on 0808 808 00 00 - most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week Clicking here to see what is available. This service provides lots of cancer information, support, financial guidance or just a listening ear.
We also have Cancer Nurse Team in our Ask an Expert section, but do allow two working days for replies from our expert team.
All the very best ((hugs))
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
