Hello. I'm a busy wife and mum of two (aged 9 and 11) and I was formally diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer on 4th Aug and has gone to 6 lymph nodes.  I found my lump by accident and it's too large to remove so they want to do 5 months of chemo starting with Pacliataxel - once a week for 12 weeks and then 4 doses of EC Chemotherapy over 8 weeks.

I've just been told that I am not allowed to have my husband sit with me during my chemo which has made me feel so scared and worried. It's 5 hours of me on my own, strapped in with a cold cap and cryo cold packs on my hands and feet.  I felt I could manage if my husband could sit with me but now that, too, has been taken away from me.  I just want to cry.

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community but so sorry to hear about your BC diagnosis and your concerns. It is hard going through treatments and the restrictions that have developed over the past year or so just makes it that more harder.

A cancer diagnosis can be very challenging but talking with others who are walking the same type of cancer treatment journey will help you navigate this difficult time.

The New to Community is like the Community Reception area and as there are many cancer types and experiences so likewise the Community has many support groups so can I recommend you start by joining our supportive Breast cancer and Breast, secondary cancer groups as this will be a good place to connect with folks who may be on the same cancer treatment pathway.

To join a group just click on the link above then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens.

You can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘New Thread’ or hit the box with the X on the top right (phones), you could just copy and paste the text from this your first post. You can also join in with existing ‘Discussions’ by clicking on 'reply'.

It’s always good to talk so do call the Macmillan Support Services on 0808 808 00 00 - most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week Clicking here to see what is available. This service provides lots of cancer information, support, financial guidance or just a listening ear.

We also have Cancer Nurse Team in our Ask an Expert section, but do allow two working days for replies from our expert team.

To find information covering diagnosis, treatments and pages covering most types of cancers check our Online Information and Support Section

    All the very best ((hugs))
