I am recently diagnosed with breast cancer and am due to start chemo next week.  It's all a big shock to me and I don't think it's sunk in yet - I feel completely numb as though it's happening to someone else.  Does anyone else feel this way?

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community but so sorry to hear about your BC diagnosis.

A cancer diagnosis can be very challenging but talking with others who are walking the same type of cancer treatment journey will help you navigate this difficult time.

The New to Community is like the Community Reception area and as there are many cancer types and experiences so likewise the Community has many support groups but I see that you have joined and posted in our supportive Breast cancer group as this will be a good place to connect with folks who may be on the same cancer treatment pathway.

It’s always good to talk so do call the Macmillan Support Services on 0808 808 00 00 - most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week Clicking here to see what is available. This service provides lots of cancer information, support, financial guidance or just a listening ear.

We also have Cancer Nurse Team in our Ask an Expert section, but do allow two working days for replies from our expert team.

To find information covering diagnosis, treatments and pages covering most types of cancers check our Online Information and Support Section

    All the very best ((hugs))

  • Hi Karen  and a warm welcome to you as well.

I won’t repeat what I put in the post above but you don’t mention what type of cancer you have.

The community is divided up into different support groups so if you look through this list you can find the appropriate group for you and this second list is for our various other Cancer experience groups.

    Always around to help out.

  • Hi Thehighlander

Many thanks for your reply and advice.  Once I'm not working and going through my chemo, i'm sure i'll make good use of the different groups available.

    Thanks again,

    Dee

  • Hi Karen,

Lovely to hear from you.  I'm still working so it's taken me a couple of days to reply - sorry about that.  Won't be able to work once my chemo starts, which i've just been told is 27th August - eeekkk!

I'm sorry you've also been recently diagnosed - what type have you got?  It's a bit of a blur at the moment isn't it.  I can't take in all the information and instructions i'm being given and the amount of appointments i'm having, phew!  Had an MRI yesterday - have you had one?  That was certainly different and so loud!

Yes I hope we all make lots of new friends on here.  You're also not alone and hope to hear from you soon.

    Take care,

    Dee x
