Hi folks I'm not sure if I have come to the right place or if it is appropriate for me to be here - if I'm in the wrong place I would be happy to step back out and go elsewhere.

I had a confirmed diagnosis this week of Lichen Sclerosus after going to my GP in December last year. I have to go back on Wednesday to have blood tests and pick up some steroid cream.

Since the confirmation on Thursday I've been reading up on the condition etc. and a number of my searches led me to Macmillan Cancer Support so I thought I would reach out to the community here.

I feel a bit of a fraud as I realise this is not cancer so if I'm in the wrong place I'm happy for someone to tell me and I'll step quietly back out!!

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to the Macmillan Online Community but so sorry to hear about your Lichen Sclerosus diagnosis.

Never feel sorry about reaching out when it comes to your health, our bodies do make this living thing hard at times so it’s good to talk.

Many health conditions including Lichen Sclerosus can increase the risk of cancer and you probably have seen the NHS pages on LS and while it says is does increase the risk it is only a small increase in risk, you just need to be aware of symptoms and get things checked out if you notice and problems.

It’s always good to talk so do call the Macmillan Support Services on 0808 808 00 00 - most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week Clicking here to see what is available. This service provides lots of cancer information, support or just a listening ear.

We also have Cancer Nurse Team in our Ask an Expert section, but do allow two working days for replies from our expert team.

    All the very best ((hugs))

    Hi Mike

Thank you for your response to my message. I also had a very helpful message from a member of the online community team and they have very helpfully pointed me to an alternative source of support which I will be following up.

Thank you again for replying to my message.

    Kind Regards

    Lynda
