Struggling with how to feel… my closest friend was recently diagnosed with cancer of the bile duct. Surgery was carried out but abandoned due to unexpected spread. Now awaiting oncology appointment to plan chemo. I know this is likely to be palliative only. I have no idea how to describe how I’m feeling.
Don’t see her everyday and never have done although she lives very close and don’t want to become her go to for everything, I don’t think I could cope emotionally and I feel like I need time for me and my family to keep me grounded…..
Hi and welcome to the Online Community but so sorry to hear about your friends diagnosis.
A cancer diagnosis in your family and friends circle can be very challenging but talking with others who are walking the same type of cancer support journey (my one is completely different) will help you navigate this difficult time.
The New to Community is like the Community Reception area and as there are many cancer types and experiences so likewise the Community has many support groups so can I recommend you start of by joining our supportive Family and friends and Supporting someone with incurable cancer groups where you will connect with others supporting family and friends
To join a group just click on the link above then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens.
You can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘New Thread’ or hit the box with the X on the top right (phones), you could just copy and paste the text from this your first post. You can also join in with existing ‘Discussions’ by clicking on 'reply'.
It is an emotional time supporting someone on a cancer journey so you might find this Macmillan information your feelings when someone has cancer helpful.
