Hello and thank you for your time.

I have been diagnosed with prostate cancer. It's being treated with daily chemo tablets.

I and my wife are wanting to go on holiday and are not having much luck with holiday insurance and I am hoping that some of you good people may have information on insurance companies that are more understanding and will offer cover.

Many thanks.

  • Hi and welcome to the Online Community but so sorry to hear about your diagnosis.

A cancer diagnosis can be very challenging but talking with others who are walking the same type of cancer treatment journey (my one is completely different) will help you navigate this difficult time.

The New to Community is like the Community Reception area and as there are many cancer types and experiences so likewise the Community has many support groups and I see you have actually joined our supportive Prostate cancer group as this will be a good place to connect with folks who may be on the same cancer treatment pathway.

To go to the group just click on the link above then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘New Thread’ or hit the box with the X on the top right (phones), you could just copy and paste the text from this your first post. You can also join in with existing ‘Discussions’ by clicking on 'reply'.

This a copy and paste from our Travel Insurance Group.

Unfortunately, it can be more difficult to find reasonably priced travel insurance when you have had a cancer diagnosis but hopefully you'll be able to find some after looking at recommendations from other members pf the group.

Do have a look through the 'recommended travel insurance' thread yet, as it's where the majority of recommendations from other forum members are. If not, clicking on the link I've created will take you straight there.

It is best to phone the insurance companies rather than try and do online quotes as often at the end of the online quote it will often tell you to phone the company and you'll then have to go through all the information again. Also sometimes the broker can refer to the underwriters to see if they would provide cover when an online quote might just give you a straight refusal.

Make sure that you have all the information to hand about your diagnosis and treatment before contacting the insurers. This is a list of things an insurance provider might want to know when you're applying for insurance. Some providers might ask for a letter from your doctor saying that you are well enough to travel. This could come from your cancer team or GP.

It’s always good to talk so do call the Macmillan Support Services on 0808 808 00 00 - most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week Clicking here to see what is available. This service provides lots of cancer information, support, financial guidance or just a listening ear.

We also have Cancer Nurse Team in our Ask an Expert section, but do allow two working days for replies from our expert team.

    All the very best.

  • Hi and a second welcome to the online community

I can see that my friend Mike has already directed you to the prostate cancer group so I'm popping in to give you a link to the travel insurance group where you can check the recommendations from other members. Once you've joined you can either start a new post or take a look through the thread called 'recommended travel insurance' as that's where the majority of recommendations are kept in one place.
