Hello, an adviser on the MacMillian chat facility directed me here for help for a friend whose husband is suffering from bowel and bladder cancer. Her first language is Portuguese and the adviser said I would find Portuguese speaking groups. I've had a look around but have no idea how to find them or if they even exist.
Can anyone point me in the right direction please?
Thank you.
Hi and welcome to the online community
I'm sorry to read that your friend's husband has bowel and bladder cancer and it sounds like you're a very caring friend to look for help for him.
Unfortunately there are no groups specifically for Portuguese speakers on the online community, although there may be people in the bowel and bladder groups who speak Portuguese. Also as one of the community guidelines is "All contributions must be in English. This is because the Community team are not able to moderate posts in other languages. It is also important to make sure that all members can understand each other’s posts and so support each other" your friend's husband would not be able to post in Portuguese.
You are more than welcome to join the bowel and bladder cancer groups and post question on his behalf and, if this is something that you'd like to do, clicking on the links I've created will take you straight there.
To join the groups just click on the links I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
If you do join the groups it would be great if you could pop something about your friend's diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
I will pass on to the moderators that you were advised to join the online community because there would be "Portuguese speaking groups" as it sounds like there might be a need to speak to the people who man the chat facility.
If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help.
