I had breast cancer 3 years ago ( 2 years after my sister had it - she's fine, 2 things of radiotherapy; our mum died of it in 2000, day after my birthday which was when we found out she was dying). I'm mostly doing OK but my underlying mental health issues are causing me so many difficulties, the lockdown hasn't helped & husband and I separating (issues from my childhood but he wasn't perfect) won't have helped much either... I'll be moving out once all my benefits are sorted but my PIP was reduced by £40/w even though nothing has changed
Sorry, this isn't really relevant to cancer is it? I'm just struggling at the moment, struggling to even keep going.
Hi HirplyRockChick and a very warm welcome to the online community
I'm sorry to read how much you're struggling with everything t the moment. I think that it's a common misconception that once we've finished treatment everything goes back to normal but it can be hard.
As the online community is divided up into different support groups I'm going to recommend a couple for you to join. The first is the breast cancer group, which is a great place to connect with others who have or have had this type of cancer, and the second is the life after cancer group which is for people who have finished treatment and is a space to discuss things like the physical and emotional after effects of cancer, returning to work, or trying to move on with your life.
To join either or both of these groups just click on the links I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
It would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help.
