Hi everyone my name is Gray and was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer last year. I was given 12 -18 months and I’m 16 months into that now. I feel good just can’t seem to accept the fact I’m going to die. I’m taking the chemo tablets and all the pain killers and stuff but I can’t seem to shake the depression that comes with it.

Anyone else feel like that?

just looking for help I guess

thanks and be strong

Gray

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community but so sorry to hear about your diagnosis.

A terminal cancer diagnosis can be very challenging but talking with others who are walking the same type of cancer journey will help you navigate this difficult time. I have an incurable blood cancer that is behaving itself at the moment so not the best person to give support from a position of complete understanding.

The New to Community is like the Community Reception area and as there are many cancer types and experiences so likewise the Community has many cancer specific support groups so can I recommend you join our supportive Living with incurable cancer - incurable patients only group as this will be a good place to connect with folks on the same cancer pathway.

To join a group just click on the link above then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens.

You can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘New Thread’ or hit the box with the X on the top right (phones), you could just copy and paste the text from this your first post. You can also join in with existing ‘Discussions’ by clicking on 'reply'.

It’s always good to talk so do call the Macmillan Support Services on 0808 808 00 00 - most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week Clicking here to see what is available. This service provides lots of cancer information, support, financial guidance or just a listening ear.

We also have Cancer Nurse Team in our Ask an Expert section, but do allow two working days for replies from our expert team.

    All the very best.

  • Thanks Mike I will join the incurable cancer group

  • Hi again, I think the Macmillan Community Team have to approve your request for the Incurable Group just to make sure it’s a safe place your your all but they are often quick off the mark.

I have lived with a rare incurable blood cancer for 22 years but as my type is asleep I don’t feel that I can contribute to the group - all the best.
