Hi everyone I have never joined in anything like this usually soldiering on myself. I recognise this is probably not a good option going forward.
My husband wad diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in May. He already has prostate cancer and was doing well with hormone treatment and this cancer came as a separate one. He's 82, He is in a pretty positive state. He has has two rounds of chemo by injection but his neuts are low so they have to wait to do next round until they come up. It is me that is struggling to not go into a place of despair for him or me. I work and that helps me but 5am or earlier my brain goes into overdrive.
My name is Karyn.
Hi Karyn and welcome to the Online Community but so sorry to hear about your husbands diagnosis. A cancer diagnosis in the family can be very challenging and often the person looking on can have just as hard is journey.
I am Mike Thehighlander and I help out around our blood cancer groups so I do understand in part the problems you are facing as I have been on my journey with a rare incurable NHL for over 22 years now so things like low neuts have been part of my life for years.
You may find talking with others who are walking the same type of cancer support journey will help you navigate this difficult time.
The New to Community is like the Community Reception area and as there are many cancer types and experiences so likewise the Community has many cancer specific support groups and I can see you have already joined our supportive Acute myeloid leukaemia group as this will be a good place to connect with folks on the same cancer treatment pathway.
To go to the group just click on the link above then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘New Thread’ or hit the box with the X on the top right (phones), you could just copy and paste the text from this your first post. You can also join in with existing ‘Discussions’ by clicking on 'reply'.
When it comes to the practical challenges of supporting someone you may benefit from talking with others caring for family and friends so do check out our Carers only and Supporting someone with incurable cancer (that I see you have joined) groups where you will connect with others supporting family and friends
