Good day

Had issues with constipation for a few months which I put down to a huge change of diet and lowering my caffeine input. Ignored the blood in my poo as that was down to straining of course!!!!!

Then one day six weeks ago I couldnt pee. Went to the GP, suspected prostate cancer, sent for tests.

Prostate is enlarged but blood tests and examinations suggests it's not an issue at this stage and meds are working.

However, when the Urologist was examining he felt something strange. Referred to Colorectal team.

MRI and CT Colonoscopy cause for concern and the flexible sigmoidoscopy confirmed a cancerous growth this morning.

So here I am, in a bit of shock even though I had a gut feeling what was going on.

I take it Moviprep will become more regular.

Thanks for letting me share, especially with people who will have some understanding as hearing the Cancer word this morning felt like a punch in the guts.

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community but so sorry to hear about your diagnosis.

A cancer diagnosis can be very challenging but talking with others who are walking the same type of cancer journey (my one is completely different) will help you navigate this difficult time.

The New to Community is like the Community Reception area and as there are many cancer types so likewise the Community has many cancer specific support groups so can I recommend you join our supportive Bowel (colon and rectum) cancer group as this will be a good place to connect with folks on the same cancer treatment pathway.

To join a group just click on the link above then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens.

You can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘New Thread’ or hit the box with the X on the top right (phones), you could just copy and paste the text from this your first post. You can also join in with existing ‘Discussions’ by clicking on 'reply'.

It’s always good to talk so do call the Macmillan Support Services on 0808 808 00 00 - most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week Clicking here to see what is available. This service provides lots of cancer information, support, financial guidance or just a listening ear.

We also have Cancer Nurse Team in our Ask an Expert section, but do allow two working days for replies from our expert team.

To find information covering diagnosis, treatments and pages covering most types of cancers check our Online Information and Support Section

    All the very best.
