It has been a tough 18 months for my husband and me. My husband has had testicular twice (1987 and 2005). In February 2020 had TURP for what we were told was a benign prostate condition. It wasn't. COVID came and delayed the results from this procedure. Got told it was prostate cancer.
October 2020 my husband had open radical prostatectomy. Recovery has taken a while returned to work June 2021.
Had gastrostomy last Monday as was having reflux issues. Told on the day he has 2 lesions which are cancer in duodenum. Biopsies taken. Had CT scan yesterday. Now told to wait for results. Referrals made to clinical nurse specialist and upper gi cancer MDT last Monday but no contact from them.
I know this is bad and it so hard waiting for results and then what the next steps are. I already know that cancer in duodenum is rare malignant and aggressive. I need to know what questions to ask and outcomes. We all use Google and the survival rates for this cancer are not good when compared to cancer of prostate. I just hate waiting for action plan.
I cry alot at the moment and don't know how to support my husband.
That's all
Hi and welcome to the Online Community but so sorry to hear about your husbands diagnosis and the journey you have all been on for the past 18 months. I have been on my incurable cancer journey for over 22 years now so totally get the challenges that waiting for results brings.
A cancer diagnosis in the family can be very challenging but talking with others who are walking the same type of cancer journey (my one is completely different) will help you navigate this difficult time.
The community is divided up into different support groups found in this list but we do have our Duodenal cancer forum
as this will be a good place to connect with folks on the same cancer treatment pathway.
To join a group just click on the link above then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens.
You can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘New Thread’ or hit the box with the X on the top right (phones), you could just copy and paste the text from this your first post. You can also join in with existing ‘Discussions’ by clicking on 'reply'.
When it comes to the practical challenges of supporting someone you may benefit from talking with others caring for family and friends so do check out our Carers only group where you will connect with others supporting family and friends
