Hello,
I’m currently showing a lot of symptoms that point to cervical cancer. The doctors have ran multiple tests and the only one left is a colposcopy.
They have bypassed a smear test and sent me for a colposcopy which has frightened me a little more.
Unfortunately because of the NHS being so busy my appointments not till the 24th August.
I’m trying to keep the thought out my head but I haven’t yet been able to do so. I’ve never been scared of death/illness but I cared for my grandma who passed away in 2019 and since seeing her in pain with cancer I’m petrified.
I hadn’t told anyone at first but I have now had to tell a few but I feel uncomfortable talking about the fear I have because I don’t want to upset them.
I suppose the reason I’m here is to ask if anyone has any advice for getting through these next few weeks of waiting.
Hi and welcome to the online community
Waiting for tests and then the results of tests can be very stressful bit you've come to the right place to chat to others who have also been investigated for possible cervical cancer.
I'm wondering if your GP has suggested that you might have cervical cancer or whether you've 'googled' your symptoms and come up with that diagnosis yourself? If it's the latter then one of my recommendations for getting through the next few weeks would be to stop goggling! We've all been guilty of doing it but we tend to find the worse-case scenarios, ie cancer, rather than other benign causes for our symptoms.
I found that immersing myself in things I was interested in helped me to spend less time worrying but lots of people find mindfulness really helpful and you can find some free apps if you take a look at this page from the NHS. You might also find it helpful to have a look at this article on how to ease worry when waiting as it's full of tips on coping.
The online community is divided up into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the cervical cancer group where you will find others who have gone through the same tests as you.
To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
It would be great if you could pop something about your tests so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help.
x
