  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community

I'm sorry to read that you've just been diagnosed with cancer and it's natural for it to take a while for you to come to terms with it. However, having a supportive family is great and most people find that things get easier once a treatment plan is in place.

The community is divided up into different support groups so if you can tell me what type of cancer you have I can give you a link to the most appropriate group. Alternatively you could look through this list and choose the group that's right for you.

Once you've joined a group you can introduce yourself and post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

Dealing with cancer is hard enough without worrying about bills so you might find it useful to look at this information from Macmillan on benefits and your rights. You could also speak to Macmillan's welfare rights advisers by calling them on 0808 808 0000. It's free to call and they're available from 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 5pm on Saturday and Sunday.

It would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis and treatment so far in your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help.
