Hi, I have been diagnosed with high risk HPV after abnormal cells were found following a smear test. I went for a colposcopy last year and had LLETZ treatment. I have had a further 2 smear tests since this and still they are coming back with high risk HPV. The gynachologist has reassured me that they are confident the LLETZ procedure removed most of the harmful cells, but I'm worried as the HPV is still present, however, it's reassuring that smears are still bring carried out every 6 months. My main worry is passing it to others and the damage it could be doing to other parts of my body. There is so little information on it, I've joined the group to see if I can find any info from people who have had similar diagnosis.
Hi and welcome to the online community
I'm glad to hear that the gynaechologist is confident that they have removed most of the harmful cells but I can understand your worry about passing HPV on to others.
The online community is divided up into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the cervical cancer group where you will find others who have had the same treatment as you.
To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
You might find this information from Macmillan on HPV helpful to have a look through.
It would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis and treatment so far in your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
If you have any difficulty navigating the community just drop me a reply and I'll be pleased to help.
