Hi all,

My husband was diagnosed with Ewings Sarcoma in the Spine in Novemer 2020, had it removed on the 10th June 2021. Today he is starting on Chemotherapy for 14 Cycles (27 Weeks) week 1 for 2 days, 1 week home then 5 days in hospital, then 1 week at home and so on until finished and radiotherapy  for 3 weeks at the end.

Has anyone else had Ewings Sarcoma? about 5 years ago he had a Chondrasarcoma and had a toe removed.

my head is all over the place, dont really know what to expect.

Any advice would be welcome.

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community but so sorry to hear about your husbands diagnosis.

A cancer diagnosis in the family can be very challenging but talking with others who are walking the same type of cancer journey (my one is completely different) will help you navigate this difficult time.

There are many cancer types so likewise the Community has many cancer specific support groups so can I recommend you join our supportive Soft tissue sarcomas group as this will be a good place to connect with folks on the same cancer treatment pathway.

To join a group just click on the link above then choose 'click to join' or 'join' (depending on the device you're using) on the page that opens.

You can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘New Thread’ or hit the box with the X on the top right (phones), you could just copy and paste the text from this your first post. You can also join in with existing ‘Discussions’ by clicking on 'reply'.

You can also put Ewings Sarcoma into the search Mag tool near the top and look through the old posts and obviously you can hit reply to any post.

It’s always good to talk so do call the Macmillan Support Services on 0808 808 00 00 - most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week Clicking here to see what is available. This service provides lots of cancer information, support, financial guidance or just a listening ear.

We also have Cancer Nurse Team in our Ask an Expert section, but do allow two working days for replies from our expert team.

To find information covering diagnosis, treatments and pages covering most types of cancers check our Online Information and Support Section

    All the very best ((hugs))

  • I was diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma between rib 2 and 3 in August 2020. I also had similar chemotherapy regime. I’ve sadly had one reoccurrence so far which I also got treatment for now. How is your husband? Hope you and your family are well.

  • Hi,

really sorry to hear about your husband. I had Ewing’s sarcoma in my chest (sternum)  when I was 14. I’m 32 now so hoping the fact that I’m still around helps.

my sister was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer yesterday so I’m hoping I can empathise with you and your husband.

getting through ewings was tough, the chemo was intense. I found myself getting stomach cramps and heartburn a lot. This may happen to him as well. Some days were good, others were bad but thing thing that got me through was staying active on my good days.

My family got me out on walks and staycations when they could. I kept up my tennis and karate and ensured I stayed very active. If there is a sport he likes I’d encourage him to get out and do it, you’ll have to be his rock. From a medical side, I had bone marrow, bloods and semen samples saved just in case. Luckily there is a lot of treatment for men if you are planning or having / having any more children.

It’s likely that his spine will feel weaker so that is something to keep an eye on as my sternum where I had the tumour and received radiotherapy has always been sensitive if you apply pressure. It might be an idea to look at a chiropractor / rehab as he may suffer from back pain or sensitivity but I could be wrong as we’re all different.

from dealing with it from a loved ones perspective, all I’ve been able to do is be strong and a sounding board for my sister having gone through it. I’m trying not to let her see me get upset as I think trying to stay positive does make a massive difference.
